What makes life possible on a transformed earth, and how far can a body go in order to keep living?

Raptor del Sol, the fourth chapter of Basement, is a project by composer and artist Carlota Gadea Marqués, which develops an immersive journey around an essential question: what makes life possible on a transformed earth, and how far can a body go in order to keep living?

The project takes its starting point from Guanche tradition and the myth of Guayota, the deity imprisoned within Teide after stealing the Sun and condemning the earth to endless drought. Across three exhibition spaces, the show traces the search for water as a search for life, progressively shifting its gaze from the human body to the planetary one.

The journey includes El Uc, a choreographed performance interpreted by Sofya Shaikut, presented only once on the occasion of the opening and intended to leave a permanent trace on the walls of the space; a film shot among the volcanoes of the Canary Islands; and a sound installation dedicated to an olivine crystal, a mineral studied by ESA on Mars for its connection to the presence of water.

Through field recordings, analog synthesis, and the very matter of the volcano, Gadea Marqués considers listening as a tool for recording transformation, weaving together myth, ecology, scientific research, and imagination to reflect on the conditions that make life possible.
