A Mask Is a Task is a workshop exploring one of the core practices of The Boys and Kifer's recent workshops: designing and making the masks that participants wear to play music together.

The Boys and Kifer is a fictional band that, each time, welcomes different people and audiences, inviting them to form temporary communities. The mask becomes a starting point for investigating the many layers of meaning tied to the act of covering one's face. Exploring ritual masks, balaclavas, face masks, gas masks and theatrical masks will lead to the creation of a hybrid editorial product, conceived both as a manual for making future masks for the workshops and as a speculative exercise in telling the story of a fictional band.
