On Wednesday, April 2, at 6:30 p.m., Fondazione Elpis will host The Scent of Your Memory, a performance by artist Jazgul Madazimova, a member of the DAVRA collective, which explores themes related to migration, borders, and gender inequality.

The Scent of Your Memory, created specifically for the exhibition YOU ARE HERE. Central Asia, reflects on the departure of a loved one, on nostalgia and longing, but also on how this separation makes room for new encounters and new beginnings. The work evokes the artist’s mother’s migration, against the backdrop of the economic hardships of independent Kyrgyzstan in the early 1990s, through the scent of her hair left on a scarf.

The result of the performance is a new site-specific textile installation on view starting Thursday, April 10, which will join the works on display, offering a hopeful conclusion that echoes the collective stories of Central Asia presented by the exhibition project.
