Foreign Bodies Action

Yuval Avital

24.09.2026

Lavanderia
Via Lamarmora 26, Milan

On Thursday, September 24, 2026, the spaces of the Villa will host Foreign Bodies Action, a performance by multimedia artist and composer Yuval Avital, drawn from the opus Foreign Bodies (2016–2023) and presented in numerous exhibitions and biennials in Italy and around the world.

In medical language, the term "foreign body" designates that which comes from outside the organism. Avital reverses this meaning: it is the human body itself that becomes a foreign element within the "great body" of nature and the space that hosts it. From this inversion arises an investigation into otherness as an experience that is at once corporeal and existential, in which individual identity is measured against the collective dimension.

The performance is based on the bodily scores developed across the three chapters of the work, which the performers learn and activate in relation to the space that hosts them. The iconographic sequences characteristic of the language of Foreign Bodies are interwoven with psychological, physical, and vocal preparatory rituals.

At the heart of Avital's research is a body that does not represent, but manifests: it exposes a condition of estrangement by passing through states of vulnerability, tension, and metamorphosis. The space of the Villa is not a backdrop, but an active element of the composition, a direct interlocutor of gesture, sound, and the encounter with the audience.

The performance is the result of a workshop led by Avital in collaboration with performer and dancer Anita Lorusso and 15 young dancers from DanceHaus Susanna Beltrami.

The project is realized in collaboration with Susanna Beltrami DanceHaus.
