Eunoé

The Elpis Foundation and Threes present a new episode of Basement, a project dedicated to artistic experimentation that features installations and sound pieces in the basement of the Elpis Foundation in Milan.

Eunoé is an immersive installation that envelops visitors in an auditory and visual experience designed to rekindle deep connections with the past. Inspired by science fiction, the work is the result of an interdisciplinary dialogue between art, therapy, and neuroscience, born from a collaboration between Clarice Calvo-Pinsolle and experts in the field.

Eunoé is an imaginary river created by Dante in the Divine Comedy, described as the positive counterpart to the river Lethe. Drinking from its waters allows one to remember the good deeds performed in the past and forget the bad ones. In Greek mythology, Eunoé is also a nymph, daughter of the river god Sangarius.

How do we remember? And what happens when memories resurface? What images, sounds, or scents can bring a buried memory back to the surface, reconnecting us to our inner ecosystems? These are the questions guiding the creation of Eunoé, an immersive installation that engages visitors through sound and visuals, with the aim of rebuilding connections to their past.

The work, inspired by science fiction and born from exchanges between the artist, therapists, and neuroscientists, explores the possibility that certain sounds or sound effects can reconnect parts of the brain and facilitate the rebuilding of bonds with one’s past. The composition relies heavily on the spatialization of sound, which draws us into its movements, while fragile glass sculptures “sway” to the rhythm of the water.

Eunoé thus becomes a place of introspection and healing, where sound and matter merge to awaken dormant memories and rebuild bridges to our past, offering visitors a unique and deeply evocative sensory experience.
